General Duties and responsibilities:

Consultation on the diagnosis and management of infection and infectious diseases in the hospitals and local community.
Day to day supervision of clinical and scientific diagnostic methods and examination of specimens and authorisation and interpretation of the results obtained.
Involvement in the management of individual patients through clinical liaison and ward based activity
Provision of an “On-Call” service in Infection/Microbiology and Infection Control.
To lead on infection control issues Hospital Infection Control Committee.
To support and advise on Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) in all infection control issues
Opportunities for involvement in the provision of clinical infectious diseases services, dependant upon the candidate’s interests, on a rotational basis.
Responsibility for achieving and maintaining full accreditation of the laboratory with Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Limited.
To participate in the teaching, supervision and development of junior medical and non-medical staff in the department and staff appraisal.


Person Specification

MBBS or Equivalent
Full/Specialist GMC registration with a licence to practise (or eligible for GMC Registration)
FRCPath or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in Microbiology
Consultant level experience
Leadership and Management skills
Efficiency in Teamwork and superior communication skills
